Roller blinds in a sentence or three
A roller blind is a single piece of fabric that winds onto a tube at the top of the window. Written quote after a free survey. Lead time confirmed when you order.
Five fabric types, five jobs
Most homes end up with more than one type: blackout upstairs, waterproof in the bathroom, plain or screen downstairs. Because the mechanism is the same, they all look consistent.
| Fabric | What it does | Typical room |
|---|---|---|
| Plain | Softens light, gives privacy when down | Living rooms, studies |
| Blackout | Coated to stop light through the fabric | Bedrooms, nurseries |
| Voile | Sheer, filters light, some daytime privacy | Layered behind other blinds |
| Screen | Cuts glare and heat, keeps the view out | Home offices, sunny rooms |
| Waterproof | Wipes clean, copes with steam | Bathrooms, kitchens |
Why rollers are the lowest cost blind
There is very little to a roller: a tube, a control, a bottom bar and the fabric. That simplicity is why they are our most affordable blind per window and why they are quick to make. It is also why they are reliable, since there are few parts to wear.
The price you pay mostly follows the width of the window and the fabric you choose. Blackout and specialist fabrics cost a little more than plain.
Blackout: what a roller can and cannot do
A blackout fabric stops light passing through, but a roller still leaves small gaps at the sides where the fabric clears the frame. Fitting outside the recess with an overlap reduces that. For bedrooms where any edge glow matters, the blackout blind systems guide explains the options that seal the sides properly.
Rollers or verticals?
For most ordinary windows a roller is the neater, cheaper answer. Where the opening is much wider than it is tall, such as patio doors, a single roller becomes heavy and awkward, and vertical blinds usually work better. Our roller versus vertical blinds comparison goes through that choice room by room.
Measured and fitted by the people who make them
Before we leave, we show you how each blind works, check every one runs level, and make sure the fabric clears handles and sills. If a blind ever needs adjusting later, the same small team that measured and fitted it comes back to sort it, so there is never a call centre between you and the people who made it.

Controls, fitting positions and finishing touches
Rollers can be fitted inside the recess, which looks neat and keeps the sill clear, or outside on the wall, which gives better light block and hides the window frame. Tight recesses with handles that stick out usually need an outside fit so the fabric drops cleanly.
Most rollers use a side chain, and we fit child-safety devices on every chain as standard. The bottom bar can be a simple slim profile or a shaped edge, and fabrics come in plain colours, textures and prints, so a roller does not have to look utilitarian.
Layering is worth thinking about too. A voile roller behind a blackout roller, or a screen fabric for daytime with a blackout for night, gives two looks from one window. We can measure for any combination on the same visit and price every room together, so you know the total before anything is ordered.
Roller blind questions
How much do roller blinds cost?
Written quote after a free survey. Window width and fabric choice decide the final price.
Are roller blinds good for bathrooms?
Yes, with waterproof fabric. It copes with steam and wipes clean.
Will a blackout roller make a room fully dark?
The fabric blocks light, but small gaps at the sides let some edge light in. Fitting outside the recess with an overlap helps.
How long do they take?
