Shutter panels being fitted into a window reveal

Process

What happens on fitting day

The short answer

Fitting is the part customers worry about and the part that is usually over faster than expected. Knowing what to move and what to expect makes the day straightforward.

Typical window
Under an hour each once set up
Dust
Minimal, drilling into reveals only
Fitted by
Jonathan or Tony, not a subcontractor

Getting ready

Clear the cill and move furniture back about a metre from each window so there is room for a step and a panel. Take down existing curtains or blinds if you are not asking us to remove them.

Pets are best kept in another room, doors are open, tools are out and panels are leaning against walls.

How the fit runs

Frames go in first, checked for level and square against the reveal rather than against the wall. Panels are then hung, aligned and adjusted so the closure line is even top to bottom. Magnets and catches are set last.

Shaped and bay windows take longer because each facet is aligned to the next.

Mess and making good

There is drilling into the reveal, so there is a small amount of dust, which we clear as we go. Fixings are plugged and finished so nothing is visible. We take packaging away with us rather than leaving it for your bin.

If something is not right

Because we surveyed it, any adjustment on the day is ours to sort. Most issues are millimetre alignment matters resolved on the spot. In the rare case a panel needs remaking, UK manufacture means weeks rather than months.

We walk each room with you at the end and show you how to operate and clean everything before we leave.

Common questions

How long does fitting take?

Usually under an hour per straightforward window once set up. Bays, shaped heads and tier-on-tier take longer.

Do I need to be home all day?

Someone needs to be there to give access and to walk through at the end, but for a multi-room job you do not need to hover.

Will you remove my old blinds?

We can, and we will take them away. Mention it at survey so the time is allowed for.

Do you use subcontractors?

No. Jonathan or Tony survey and fit, which is why the same person who measured is the one solving anything on the day.
