Tilt-and-turn windows, bi-folds and French doors all defeat a standard recess blind: open the window and the dressing is in the way, or it swings and thumps the glass. There are fixes, but they need choosing before you order, not after.

Perfect-fit systems
A perfect-fit blind sits in a slim frame that clips into the rubber glazing bead around the pane, so the blind travels with the sash. Tilt the window inwards and the blind tilts with it. No drilling into the frame, no cords hanging, no clash with the handle.
They suit pleated and venetian fabrics well, and they are the standard answer for uPVC tilt-and-turn units and door panels.
Bi-folds and French doors
On bi-folds, each leaf takes its own slim blind so the doors still fold. Trying to cover the whole run with one blind means it must be lifted every time you open the doors, which nobody keeps doing.
French doors need clearance at the handle and enough depth that the blind does not foul the opposite leaf when both are closed. We measure that projection rather than assuming a standard.
Can you use shutters instead?
On doors, yes, a track system or a hinged panel arrangement can work, but it needs space to stack and a floor line that is level enough to run a track. On tilt-and-turn casements, shutters can be face-fitted clear of the opening arc so the window still functions fully.
Which route is right depends on the reveal, the handle position and how often the opening is used, so it is a survey decision.
Mistakes we get called out to
The usual ones are blinds ordered to a recess size that then block the handle, and dressings fitted across a bi-fold as a single run. Both are ordering errors rather than product faults, and both are avoided by measuring with the window open as well as closed.
Common questions
Do perfect-fit blinds damage the window frame?
No. The frame clips into the glazing bead and can be removed later without screws or holes in the profile.
Can I get shutters on bi-fold doors?
Tracked shutter systems exist and work well where there is somewhere for the panels to stack. It requires a level floor line and clear wall space, which we check on survey.
Will a blind stop my tilt-and-turn window opening?
Not if it is a perfect-fit system, because it moves with the sash. A recess-mounted roller on a tilt-and-turn usually will interfere, which is why we do not specify them there.
What about the small top-opening vent window?
Those take their own miniature perfect-fit blind, or are left clear and covered by the main dressing when it is closed. It depends on whether you use the vent daily.
