Shutters fitted across several rooms of a Cheshire home

Costs

Shutter costs by window size and by room

The short answer

Short answer: small windows cost less per window but more per square metre, and bays cost roughly three times a single window because they are three windows with angled joins. Bathrooms sit slightly above a standard window because they must be made in waterproof ABS.

By window size

Panels are priced by area, but there is a minimum charge, so very small windows look expensive per square metre.

  • Under 0.6m wide (cloakroom, landing): £320 to £450
  • Standard up to 1.2m wide: £450 to £700
  • Wide window 1.2m to 1.8m: £700 to £1,050
  • Three-section bay: £950 to £1,550

By room

Living rooms usually carry the bay and set the budget. Bedrooms are the volume, and where most people trim spend by choosing a lighter specification. Bathrooms and shower rooms are the one place where the material is not negotiable.

  • Living room bay: the single largest line on most quotes
  • Bedrooms: several similar windows, best place to save
  • Bathroom: waterproof ABS only, £420 to £600
  • Kitchen: café style over the sink keeps cost and mess down

Where people over-spend

Specifying hardwood everywhere when only the bay and the tall stair window need it. Specifying tier-on-tier in rooms nobody overlooks. Choosing the largest louvre on a short window, which costs more and looks wrong.

Where it is worth spending

The front bay, the stair window and anywhere a shape has to be cut. Those are the panels visitors notice and the ones most likely to expose a poor fit.

Common questions

Is it cheaper to do the whole house at once?

Usually, yes. A single visit, a single delivery and a single fitting day mean whole-house orders typically get a five to ten per cent saving.

Why is a tiny window not much cheaper?

Every panel still needs a frame, hinges, machining and a fitting visit. The materials scale down but the labour does not.

Do bays always cost three times a window?

Roughly. Splay bays with angled posts cost a little more than square bays because the joins have to be cut to the actual angle of your brickwork.

Can you quote room by room?

Yes. We break every quote down per window so you can stage the work.
