The upfront difference
A blind is fabric on a mechanism. A shutter is joinery: a made frame, machined panels, hinges, and a fitting job that has to be accurate to the millimetre. That is why the numbers are so far apart, and it is not a mark-up story.

Lifespan and replacement cycles
Blinds are consumables in the medium term, fabrics fade, mechanisms wear, and most households replace them at least once a decade. Shutters are a fitting; they stay with the house and are generally treated as part of it when you sell.
Over a long tenure that changes the comparison, though we would never claim it makes shutters cheaper in cash terms.
How to split a whole-house budget
Put shutters where they are seen and used: the front bay, the main living space, the room you sit in every evening. Use good blinds in bedrooms, box rooms, utilities and anywhere the window is functional rather than featured.
That split gets most of the visual impact for a fraction of a whole-house shutter cost, and it is what we recommend to most customers doing a full house.

Nothing stops you fitting shutters room by room over a couple of years. We record the specification so later additions match, which avoids the mismatched-white problem people run into when they go elsewhere for the second phase.

On the windows you look at daily and intend to keep for years, most customers say yes. On a spare bedroom, a good blind is the better use of the money.
Can I mix shutters and blinds in one house?
Yes, and most of our customers do. Keeping a consistent white across both keeps it looking deliberate.
Do shutters add value to a property?
They are a well-regarded fitted improvement and present strongly in viewings and photographs. We do not put a percentage on it because that depends on the property and the market.
What is the cheapest way to get the shutter look?
Café-style on the street-facing rooms, fewer square metres of panel for the same visual effect from outside.
