Frosted glass is a one-way decision: permanent obscurity, permanently duller light, and no view even when you would like one. Waterproof shutters give the same privacy on demand and hand the window back the rest of the time.

Adjustable beats permanent
A tilted louvre gives full privacy from outside while daylight still reaches the ceiling. Open it and the room gets a proper view and ventilation. That flexibility is the reason people take frosted film off after fitting shutters rather than keeping both.
For a ground-floor bathroom overlooked by a path, tilting up is the setting to use, light in, sightlines out.
Small and awkward openings
Bathroom windows are often the smallest and most obstructed in the house: a tiled cill, a handle that projects, an opening restrictor, a boxed pipe in the reveal. Each of those changes the frame type and the panel split.
We survey around the ironmongery so the panel still closes with the handle in place, or specify a face-fit frame that clears it entirely. Getting that wrong is the most common complaint about bathroom shutters fitted from posted-in measurements.
Keeping the window usable
You still need to open it. Where the window is top-hung, a shutter panel that swings clear on the same side keeps the opening arc free. Where the restrictor limits travel, we set the panel depth so nothing collides.
For tiny windows a single hinged panel is usually right; splitting a narrow opening into two panels leaves a centre stile in the middle of an already small aperture.
Cleaning and longevity
ABS panels take toothpaste splashes, limescale mist and steam without complaint, a damp cloth and they are done. There is no veneer edge to lift and no core to swell, which is why we specify them for every shower room rather than trying to save a little with a painted timber panel.
Common questions
Will shutters warp in a bathroom?
Waterproof ABS will not, it is a solid moulded polymer with no core. Timber and MDF can, which is why we do not fit them over baths and in shower rooms.
Can shutters fit a really small window?
Yes. Small openings are common in bathrooms and usually take a single hinged panel. The limits are set by the reveal depth and the window handle, both of which we check on site.
Do I need to remove the frosted glass first?
No. Plenty of people keep it and gain adjustable light control on top. If you are replacing the window anyway, clear glass plus shutters gives you the brighter result.
Are they safe near a shower spray?
ABS handles direct water. We still set the panels so they clear the wettest zone where the layout allows, simply so they stay dry and clean between wipes.
